  • About the Edition

Over the last several years, there has been much discussion on the interrelation of CO2 emissions with the global warming phenomenon. This in turn has increased pressure to develop and produce more fuel efficient engines and vehicles. This is the central topic of this book. It covers the underlying processes which cause pollutant emissions and the possibilities of reducing them, as well as the fuel consumption of gasoline and diesel engines, including direct injection diesel engines. As well as the engine-related causes of pollution, which is found in the raw exhaust, there is also a description of systems and methods for exhaust post treatment. The significant influence of fuels and lubricants (both conventional and alternative fuels) on emission behavior is also covered. In addition to the conventional gasoline and diesel engines, lean-burn and direct injection gasoline engines and two-stroke gasoline and diesel engines are included. The potential for reducing fuel consumption and pollution is described as well as the related reduction of CO2 emissions. Finally, a detailed summary of the most important laws and regulations pertaining to pollutant emissions and consumption limits is presented. This book is intended for practising engineers involved in research and applied sciences as well as for interested engineering students.

These combine electric motors and conventional engines, which means less fuel consumption than a conventional petrol vehicle and lower ongoing costs. Because of the way their engines function, hybrids are best suited to city driving. Toyota introduced the first hybrid car in Australia, the Prius, in , so has had time to work with the. It consists of a conventional combustion engine and a low-power electric engine, generating up to 15% reductions in fuel consumption. The company says that its main growth driver beyond will be autonomous driving, but at present the driving force behind innovation is the desire to reduce emissions through greater efficiency to assist.

As a result, fuel injection pressure affects significantly to the fuel consumption and exhaust gas emission. The lowest fuel consumption and gas (CO and HC) emissions were reached when the. Schäfer F., van Basshuysen R. () Design features which influence pollutant emissions and fuel consumption in four-stroke engines. In: Reduced Emissions and Fuel Consumption in Automobile Engines.

The introduction of the oxidation catalytic converter in also helped to improve fuel economy as well as reduce emissions. Electronic engine control later added another layer of technology. The energy crisis of the s produced a mixed record with respect to auto emissions. The American automobile industry, especially Chrysler, was.   "The ability to reduce the size of the vertical tail would reduce weight and drag and decrease fuel consumption and emissions,” NASA engineer Mike Alexander said in .

Here are 13 tips concerning how you drive, what you have in your car, and maintenance issues that let you get as much bang for every buck you spend on fuel.

Drive only when needed. The best way to reduce the fuel consumption is to simply drive your. Choose Fuel Efficient Vehicles. When shopping for a new car, look for fuel efficient vehicles with low greenhouse gas emissions.

These cars can help the environment while potentially saving you money on fuel costs at the pump. Follow these tips: 1. Use EPA's Green Vehicle Guide to learn about vehicles that are more efficient and less polluting.

Reducing your car's emissions is good for the environment and a cleaner car will also offer better performance, increased fuel economy and be cheaper to run.

While every car made in or after will have a Euro emissions standard, which classifies what emissions it produces in what quantities, these are based on lab tests and the actual. Covers the underlying processes which cause pollutant emissions and the possibilities of reducing them, as well as the fuel consumption of gasoline and diesel engines, including direct injection This book presents a summary of the important laws and regulations pertaining to pollutant emissions and consumption limits.

The Vehicle Technologies Office is supporting research to greatly improve the fuel efficiency and reduce the emissions produced by both light and heavy-duty vehicles. It also supportswhich provides consumers with the fuel economy of all vehicles back toas well as tips to help drivers save money and fuel.

To address this challenge, Purify Fuel has demonstrated the optimized fuel combustion catalyst, nanO2®, which has proven to reduce fuel consumption, reduce emission, and increase engine power.

The active ingredient in nanO2®, called EOLYS Fuel Additives, was introduced into the market by Solvay in   This book presents the papers from the Internal Combustion Engines: Performance, fuel economy and emissions held in London, UK.

This popular international conference from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers provides a forum for IC engine experts looking closely at developments for personal transport applications, though many of the drivers.

Recommendation Because differences in the fuel consumption of vehicles relate directly to fuel savings, the labeling on new cars and light-duty trucks should include information on the gallons of fuel consumed per miles traveled in addition to the already-supplied data on fuel economy so that consumers can become familiar with fuel.

Policies to reduce fuel consumption, air pollution, and carbon emissions from vehicles in G20 nations The transport sector consumes more than half of global oil production, and releases nearly a quarter of all anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions.

In the automotive industry, engine downsizing is the practice of utilizing smaller combustion engines over larger ones of the same power capacity when manufacturing is the result of car manufacturers attempting to provide more efficient vehicles that emit fewer emissions, often mandated by legislative standards.

The term generally relates to traditional internal combustion engines. The concept of the stop-start system is simple. It automatically shuts off the engine when the vehicle is at rest to cut fuel use and eliminate idle emissions.

Reduce emissions, fuel consumption and improve function of your engine by using CarPills Secret of Engine Problem Diagnosis- Fuel Trims Pt.1 Filipino invents device to reduce car. For example, diesel engines have always been praised for their reduced fuel economy but, taking into account the high-end technologies developed .The fuel economy of an automobile relates distance traveled by a vehicle and the amount of fuel consumed.

Consumption can be expressed in terms of volume of fuel to travel a distance, or the distance travelled per unit volume of fuel consumed. Since fuel consumption of vehicles is a significant factor in air pollution, and since importation of motor fuel can be a large part of a nation's.
